I have been tracking the progress of Nomiku, an immersion heater class consumer who was food extrapolation draft earlier on Kickstarter and a success of Haxlr8r. The product aims to bring to fancy restaurant technology in the kitchen at home with a device that hangs on a pot of water to be heated at specific temperatures, allowing you to cook under the empty meat. The technique of meat slow cooking in a vacuum-sealed bag is rigour in restaurants high-end, but out of reach for users because of the price. While he has not begun to deliver again, Nomiku will cost $359 and the creators call the first immersion heater for the home cook.
But be careful Nomiku. Here comes the second vacuum device for the Home Cook: Codlo, a product of start-up of a small team with a history very similar to Nomiku people. And it costs 50% less. Nomiku is plu long in the production of Codlo. The Codl0 of $150 is stil, fundraising on Kickstarter.
I have not used a camera so I can't say which is better. With a Nomiku (which looks a lot like a vibrator), clips from the entire unit on a pot and the heating element extends into the vessel. Codlo must be used with a rice cooker or slow cooker. The device (which looks very much like a thermostat, nid) plugs into the wall and a long temperature probe extends the device in slow cooker.
Is there place for household use several thermostats immersion? It will be interesting to see how home cooks take to these gadgets, and if we see more competition in this space.
