The New York City subway has an area of retail sale to the new weird and wonderful one of its stops in Brooklyn. Called the newsstand, the month of pop-up store sells zines, mail art cards, discs vinyls and other goodies fun, fringy, retro-art.

For those who do not know, zines (small circulation magazines) was born science fiction fanzines of the 30 s, 60 s, came to maturity at the height of punk rock of the 1980s and truly exploded in the 1990s, thanks to the publishing computer, copiers House and corner copy stores. Most people think that zines died during the birth of the Internet, but zines have remained alive and well, they were just going deeper underground, continuing to rely on a smaller, more devoted fan base. In recent years, they have even been enjoying something of a resurgence, perhaps that people begin to pine for the good old days of photography, punk-rock edition and physical mail.

In this opportunistic environment comes the newsstand. Created by conservative fair zine Lele Saveri and Kevin Kearney and Jamie Falkowski creation ALLDAYEVERYDAY Agency, metro shop sells magazines and other media independent from anywhere in the world, has committed zine of celebrities and artists invited, sells snacks from local brand and sports even a vending machine zine. There is even a leave / take a zine swap.

The store is located in the resort of Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, at the intersection of G and L trains. It will remain open until July 20. In view of the enthusiastic response, that it is appreciated, maybe it will stay open longer, or as ethics DIY of the ads it sells, inspiring similar pop - ups. Punk rock!

PAPERMAG has an interview with the three creators of the store.
